As the drummer with Big Daddy Weave, Jeff started speaking every chance he had. After recording 7 albums and touring the country with the band for over 13 years, he began to see a common desire among those he met. As they interacted he began connecting the dots to develop the message he shares today.
Now, as a full-time speaker and entrepreneur, Jeff gets to share the principles he’s learned and developed through life lessons over the years with audiences everywhere. Jeff’s mission is to teach others to live the life they were created to live.
The Back Story
Growing up as the short kid in school, it wasn’t always easy being the target of constant bullying and harassing. I remember, as a drummer in middle school band, I was so short I couldn’t carry my drum home by myself. So, thanks to my dad, I was the only kid in school with two drums. One at home and one at school. Playing the drums in school was something I used to discover who I was and who I wanted to become.
Other people’s opinions didn’t stop me from being me. I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum. I knew from the 6th sixth grade that I wanted to be a professional drummer. Winning the title of first chair in the Alabama All-State band all four years of high school was a huge reward for thousands of hours of sacrifice. Fast forward thirty years and I can honestly say I’ve lived my dreams.
I’ve been to 49 states in the U.S., coast to coast in Canada, visited Africa, South America and even a few stops in Mexico. (I’ve been on 9 cruises, but I probably shouldn’t mention that). Most of this from an airplane and the comfort of a 45′ tour bus. I’ve achieved my dreams. Getting to hear countless stories of others who have the same dreams and passions in life was a huge motivation for me to continue traveling and spreading a message of hope. Getting to have an impact on the lives of others is the greatest reward I’ve experienced in life.
Selling over 1.5 million albums with 7 number 1 songs is a huge accomplishment. Many people feel like they have achieved a certain level of success once certain goals have been met. Not to diminish or downplay what I have done, but as I traveled from city to city I couldn’t deny the longing I had to pour into others what I had learned on my journey of 13 years and more than 1500 concerts.
I love sharing with others how discovering my passion and working hard allowed me to see the world, perform in front of over one million people, earn four full-tuition college scholarship and daily feel like I’m making a difference in the lives or others.
From Professional Drummer to Speaker
I constantly run into people who don’t know what they want to do with their life. They don’t know what they want to be “when they grow up.” This is very common and I struggled with it for a bit as well. However, after I got serious about my calling in life, it became easy to answer. It was very clear what I was placed on this earth to do. I am a teacher and an encourager. Anyone who knows me well can easily attest to this fact. I am thankful I learned this while I was still young.
I love speaking because it allows me to do both.
Knowing that someone has the ability to make a decision that can change the course of their life is a powerful thing. Getting to be a part of that decision is incredibly humbling.
I hope I get to make a difference in the life of just one person because I know that is all it takes to change the future. One person can change the future and influence the lives of those around them, creating a chain reaction that can change others.
Knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of others is the only way I can leave the three ladies pictured on the left at home when I speak. They are very supportive of what I am called to do.
